This is my friend Gabe. Gabe is going into the 6th grade this year. He was born with a chronic kidney condition called Posterior Urethral Valves and will need a kidney transplant. Gabe is a regular at our junior youth group and so much fun to be around.
Initially the funds raised from the car show were to go towards our youth group, however the youth group decided it should go towards Gabe instead. Proceeds from the show will go towards “Team Gabe H”. The funds will assist with transplant related expenses now and throughout his lifetime. What we raise will be sent to COTA. The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses.
This is a free show all around. We will be relying on donations at the show and a few auction items. We will also have event shirts for sale that will help raise more funds for Gabe.
I am working on a new collection for an upcoming show on September 10th. The work is bigger and I’m playing around with iconic images. I will be the first to say it…. “Andy Warhol”. At first that reference bothered me, but I am over it. Vintage items are my thing so bringing that into my work makes sense for me. I hope you can all make it to the opening night. See you there.
Iron Sharpens Iron car show is about fellowship. This is a faith based event but EVERYONE is welcome to come. All makes n models, all years, and all styles.
Proceeds from this event will go towards our youth ministry at Our Saviours Lutheran Church here in Zumbrota, MN. Show starts at 8am with some breakfast. There will be two special guest speakers: David Moulder & Bruce Van natta. We will be serving lunch at sometime during the day as well.
Many more details to come.
On our way back from a Dare 2 Share conference in Missouri we scored this gem. With about 6 youth kids in tow we stopped in Cedar Rapids to hit some antique shops. For some of the kids it was an introduction to hunting for rare items and things that trigger emotional response, just like this Atari. Continue reading “Atari find”
Who cares! I finally found what I was looking for.
Let me back up just a bit….
Somewhere around 1998 I was made aware of this painter by the name Jackson Pollock. My first reaction was that this guy sucked at painting and why are we talking about him in this design class. Well that sparked this long love/hate relationship between Jackson Pollock and myself. Well really just myself. The more I learned about this guy the more interesting I found him to be. It was the man himself that made his art intriguing. Anyway…. Long story very short… I beagn to hunt for his breakout moment when he was published in Life Magazine, August 8, 1949. It turned out to not be an easy task. Finding stacks of Life Magazines in antique shops and collections was not the problem. It was finding that August 8, 1949 issue that was the problem.
